Valrico’s History

Valrico began as a region of cotton plantations known as Long Pond. In 1890, new immigrants began to arrive to the area from areas north of the city. Valrico was named by William G. Tousey, a philosophy professor from Tufts College.

Since then, Valrico has grown significantly. Today, there are more than 35,000 residents living in Valrico. The median income for a household in Valrico was $98,700 and the median income for a family was $105,475. With so much development, Valrico has arisen as an attractive community for residential living.

Valrico’s Geography

The United States Census Bureau defines a Census-Designated Place of Valrico centered at

27°56′27″ North and 82°14′33″ West. It has a total area a total area of 5.7 sq mi (22.07 km2), of which 5.6 sq mi (15 km2) is land and 0.1 sq mi (0.2 km2) is water.

Recreational Amenities in Valrico

Bloomingdale East Park offers handball, square and tennis courts. It also has a playground. For residents, that enjoy biking, running or walking, this park offers decent amenities. Valrico Park provides a basketball, volleyball court and a playground. Residents may opt to take classes at Valrico Recreation Center or rent the venue for events.

Valrico has various public and private schools. The public district schools in Valrico are operated by Hillsborough County Public Schools. Children attending elementary school go to Alafia Elementary School, Cimino Elementary School, Lithia Springs Elementary, and Valrico Elementary. The middle schools in Valrico are Barrington Middle School, Mulrennan Middle School and Randall Middle School. The high schools in Valrico are Bloomingdale High School and Newsome High School.

Art and Culture in Valrico

James McCabe Theater hosts a number of theater events including Dinner Theater Evenings. The theater is also home to the Village Players performance troupe. There are also art, dance and ballet schools in Valrico for residents that want to learn something new.
