Clearwater is located in Pinellas County. Clearwater is the smallest of the three main cities in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Clearwater holds the record for most consecutive days of sunshine in a single year, with 361 days.

Clearwater’s History

Present-day Clearwater was originally the home of the Tocobaga people. Around 1835, the United States Army began construction of Fort Harrison, named after William Henry Harrison, as an outpost during the Seminole Wars. The town began developing in the late nineteenth century, prompted by Peter Demens’ completion of the first passenger railroad line into the city in 1888. In 1891, Clearwater was incorporated.

Clearwater’s Geography

Clearwater, Florida is centered at 27°58′25″ North and 82°45′51″ West. It has a total area of  39.2 sq mi (101.6 km2) of which, 25.6 sq mi (66.2 km2) is land and 13.7 sq mi (35.4 km2) is water.

Recreational Amenities in Clearwater

Moccasin Lake Nature Park is a 51-acre nature preserve with a 5-acre lake that is owned and operated by the City of Clearwater. The preserve also features the Moccasin Lake Environmental Education Center, which offers environmental education classes, programs and camps. The Center features live rehabilitated birds of prey, reptiles, amphibians and aquatic wildlife. The City of Clearwater also offers five pools: Ross Norton, North Greenwood, Morningside, the Longcenter, and Clearwater Beach.

Clearwater Schools

Clearwater has various public schools, including elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. The public district schools in Clearwater are operated by Pinellas County Schools. Children attending elementary school go to Eisenhower Elementary School, Skycrest Elementary School, Frontier Elementary School, Plumb Elementary School, Leila Davis Elementary School and Belcher Elementary School. A middle school in Clearwater is Oak Grove Middle School. The high schools in Clearwater are Countryside High School and Clearwater High School.
