On Monday January 4, 2016, I suffered a heart attack. There were no warning signs and I was relatively healthy at the time. I survived the attack with zero heart damage, something the doctors said was a medical miracle. In fact, my cardiologist stated, "You survived because God still has work for you to do." During my recovery period I took these words to heart (no pun intended). I examined my life in ways I never had before. What was my true calling? How did I want to be remembered? What would my legacy be?
Following much prayer and supplication, I decided to depart from a successful accounting career to pursue one in real estate sales. I had long admired the profession but did not view myself as a 'sales person'. Five years in the business has taught me that it is not about sales. It is about making an impact on humanity. Admittedly there are still days I long the predictability of a steady paycheck. But real estate has allowed me to change lives.
I have laughed with the man who walked around his new home with his arms outstretched in disbelief. Cried with the young lady purchasing her first home as she pondered a brighter future for her children. Prayed with the family who sold their home that their next one would bring even more happy memories. I believe this is my calling.
As I prepare for my next five years in the industry, I tell you this (in my best Liam Neeson voice): I have a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a long career. Skills that make me a resource for people like you. I will look for you. And I will find you... your next new home (or help you sell)!
